Aquaponics is a system designed to allow you to farm fish and plants in a symbiotic environment. Fish produce waste that turns into nitrates and ammonia, and, while a build-up of these is not healthy for the fish, they are a very effective fertiliser for plants. As the plants use up these nutrients, they also purify the water, creating a healthier environment for the fish.
At Hydroponics in Action, we have developed the GL Aquaponic Interlocking Raft system (GLAIR) for this purpose specifically. The system floats directly on the ponds and is best suited to grow leafy vegetables, more particularly lettuce.
